2003 F1 Season Highlights
- 16 races — opening at Australia and closing at Suzuka, with the championship still mathematically open at the final round
- 10 teams, 20 drivers — Ferrari, McLaren, Williams (BMW), Renault, BAR-Honda, Sauber-Petronas, Jaguar (Ford), Jordan-Ford, Minardi-Cosworth and Toyota
- Michael Schumacher wins his sixth Drivers' Championship with Ferrari (93 pts) — surpassing Juan Manuel Fangio's 46-year-old record of five titles
- Kimi Räikkönen P2 by just two points (91 pts) in his second McLaren season — the closest a non-Ferrari driver had come since 2000
- Juan Pablo Montoya P3 (82 pts) for Williams-BMW — three drivers separated by 11 points heading into Japan
- Ferrari's fifth consecutive Constructors' Championship (158 pts) — but only 14 ahead of Williams (144) and 16 ahead of McLaren (142)
- New 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 points system debuts — replaces the old 10-6-4-3-2-1 (top-6 only) used 1991–2002, rewarding lower finishers and stretching out championships. This is the system used through 2009
- Fernando Alonso's first F1 win at the Hungarian Grand Prix for Renault — at 22 years and 26 days, then the youngest race winner in F1 history
- Kimi Räikkönen's first F1 win at the Malaysian Grand Prix — McLaren's first victory of the year
- One-lap qualifying introduced — single flying lap per car on Saturday, in reverse championship order, with cars going out in race fuel
- Parc fermé rules introduced — cars locked between qualifying and the race, ending the old high-fuel-low-fuel qualifying game
- Eight different race winners across the season — the most varied top step since 1985
- No Sprint races, no fastest lap bonus point
